It all started while I was taking “notes” in a meeting (doodling, really). It was Shark Week of 2014 and I started drawing a shark head. Someone in the meeting started talking about seeing a rabbit in their yard recently. This sparked my mind to change directions with the doodle and I started adding a rabbit body to it.
I posted the drawing on Instagram later that day. Shortly after that, I started receiving requests for other mash-up animal creatures from my friends & followers. There were some interesting ideas and I felt it would be fun to draw some of these requests. It had been awhile since I actually did some drawing other than “doodles”. I thought that I would use this opportunity to help me get back into illustrating, so I decided to challenge myself to draw 30 creatures in 30 days.
The response was awesome and I felt honored to have so many people provide me with such great ideas and the support.
The result of it is what you see here, The Animashup Series. They were all drawn with pencil on 6″ x 8″ mix media paper and the Blue Bearstang was colored pencil 9″ x 12″.
